When it came time for the members of KNUCKLE PUCK to name their debut full-length (and first release for Rise Records), the band knew exactly what kind of statement they wanted to make.
“In the past, we’ve had EP names that were hooky but had a somber, melancholy feel to them,” explains vocalist Joe Taylor. “We didn’t want to do that again; it’s been done before especially by us. Instead of making something that’s vaguely sad or depressing, let’s do something that makes people think.”
They settled on Copacetic, plucked from a lyric on the album’s sprawling 7-minute closing track, “Untitled,” a song that finds the quintet reaching for new sonic heights while distilling slinky guitar lines, looped vocals and electronic samples into a dreamy result. Copacetic is a title that might sound vaguely beatnik, but it’s entirely applicable to the charge set forth on the album’s 11 songs.
