Teenage Joans have been a force in Australian alternative music since emerging in late 2018. Renowned for their fierce live shows and incisive, emotionally charged songwriting, the Adelaide emo punk duo have built a reputation for instantly winning over audiences and leaving rooms full of new lifelong fans. With unapologetic honesty and commanding stage presence, Cahli and Tahlia aren’t just making noise - they’re making noise that demands attention.
The duo first rose to national attention after winning triple j Unearthed High in 2020, quickly cementing themselves as one of the country’s most exciting emerging acts. Their debut EP Taste of Me landed early support, followed by back to back appearances in the triple j Hottest 100 (#87 in 2020, #84 in 2021) and a record breaking seven wins at the 2021 South Australian Music Awards, including Best New Artist, Best Live Performance and Best Release. They were also named Best Punk Artist in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Momentum continued to snowball as Teenage Joans toured extensively across Australia and the US, sharing stages with Foo Fighters, Sum 41, Sleeping With Sirens, Amy Shark, Noahfinnce, Pale Waves, Ball Park Music, The Chats and more. Their explosive live sets have earned them spots at major festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Laneway, Good Things, Groovin the Moo, Unify Gathering, Spin Off and SXSW Austin.
In 2023, the band released their acclaimed debut album The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest via Domestic La La / UNIFIED. The record debuted across seven ARIA chart categories and received a nomination for Best Hard Rock/ Heavy Album, alongside an accompanying short film that reimagined the album through a surreal, Alice In Wonderland inspired lens.
Throughout 2024 and into 2025, Teenage Joans continued expanding their global footprint, returning to the US for headline support runs and national tours, supporting PUP and Slowly Slowly across Australia, showcasing at Music Matters Singapore, performing at Harvest Rock Festival alongside The Strokes and appearing in London as part of The Great Escape’s ‘First Fifty’.
Now entering their next era, Teenage Joans are perfecting their sound while retaining the urgency and heart that made fans fall in love in the first place. Fiercely independent and constantly evolving, the duo are not slowing down and they’re doing it their way.
